Design and engineering
A line designed for the land it crosses.
Our engineers design the route, the structures and the conductor together, so the line is safe, economical and ready to build.
What our engineers deliver
From the route survey to the construction drawings.
- Route survey and selection: topographic survey, land and access study, crossings of roads, rivers and other lines
- Structure design: lattice towers, steel poles and concrete poles chosen for the voltage, the spans and the terrain
- Conductor selection: ACSR, AAC or AAAC chosen for the current, the spans and the corrosion at site
- Sag-tension and clearance calculations for wind, ice and temperature, to keep safe distances to ground and crossings
- Insulation coordination, earthing design and lightning performance of the line
- Foundation design from the soil investigation
- Grid studies and the documents for the utility approval
- Plan and profile drawings, tower schedules, bill of materials and construction drawings
Why it matters
Good design cuts cost for the whole life of the line.
The route, the spans and the conductor decide how many structures are needed, how much the line loses and how easy it is to maintain. Because our engineers stay with the project through construction, the design is made to be built safely and on time.
Planning a new line or an upgrade?
Send us the route, the voltage and the target date. Our engineers will propose the design, the materials and the programme.
